It is hard to escape the reality that Christmas just wouldn’t seem to be Christmas without the presents under the tree. We know it is about more than that but it would seem less than what it should be without presents. Is that materialism? Is that a corruption of the celebration of one of the most important events in history? Not really. Because it was on a very special night 2000 years ago that God gave us the gift of all gifts. The gift that would change everything. Emmanuel – God With Us. We were given the gift of God’s presence in human flesh. A gift that changed hearts, lives and the world. Christmas wouldn’t be the same without PRESENCE!
Imagine if gratitude could be measured, like a fuel gauge. There are things that can drain gratitude. Like a bad day, grumpy kids, getting sick, losing money, having a bad job, an awful boss or failing test. Even the weather can get us down. Most things that empty us of gratitude are out of our control. But what if there was something we could control, we could do that would start filling our gratitude tank? What if we could experience a change in perspective that would help us see our lives in a new way? What if we could learn to be thankFULL?
Questions about God, the Bible and Christianity are asked all the time and we think they deserve to be honestly answered. Join us in October and November as we try and untangle some truths that are often pretty knotted up.
Our mission as a church is very clear: To lead people in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. But what do we mean when we say a “growing relationship”? I know when my grass grows because I can see it. I know when my children grow because we mark their progress on a door jam in our home (and they also begin to stand nose to nose with me). Growth isn’t a guess, it is measurable. So how do we measure our mission? We have identified 4 steps or pursuits that can help anyone sink deep roots in the soil of spiritual growth. Our hope is the same as the Apostle Paul who wrote in Ephesians 3:17-19, “And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Join us as we look at these four steps!
Fruit Of The Spirit
In the Gospel of John, Jesus tells us that God the Father is like a gardener that is checking branches for fruit and we are the branches. Later in the New Testament the Apostle Paul specifies the kind of fruit God is looking for on the branches. The fruit of Love, Joy, Peace, Forbearance, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control. Join us for the next 9 weeks as we do a little fruit inspection to see how fruit-filled our branches are and how we can produce the fruit God is looking for.
Who am I? What defines me? What does the world say? What does God say? How we identify ourselves determines how we approach life. We have lots of different things fighting for meaning in our lives, but we must find our true identity in Christ. So, who does God say I am, what does that mean, and how does that impact the way I live my life?

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness
The big idea is “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” We all pursue “happiness,” but what is it? God desires for us to understand and experience all four levels of happiness: 1) Candy, 2) Competition/Conquering, 3) Contribution and 4) Christ.

What are you passionate about? What is important to you? If I asked you about your favorite food, hobby, television show, movie or song, I bet you could give me an answer. So what is God passionate about? Have you ever thought about that? Although the entire Bible tells us, there is one small book in the back of the OT that summarizes what God desires and you might be surprised to find out what it is!

Impact of Influence
At the end of the day we all want to know that we have made an impact in our world. The challenge for graduates and all of us is feeling like it’s impossible to be heard in such a noisy and competitive world we live in and experience. How can we make a difference in this world? Impact begins with influence. Influence comes from example. 1 Timothy 4: 11-16 outlines the influence and impact of a young leader called Timothy in Ephesus.

We baptize people in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, but who or what is the Holy Spirit? The King James Version of the Bible calls Him the Holy Ghost. So what is this Ghost/Spirit the Bible keeps talking about? We can grasp the idea of God as a Father, because we are familiar with Fathers. We get the idea of Jesus, the Son because we’ve all seen Him portrayed in movies, in paintings and statues. But how are we supposed to understand the Holy Spirit? Let Me Mullet Over
This past fall we did a series called “I Mustache You A Question” in which we solicited questions from people regarding: Faith, the Bible, Christianity and the Church. We got some great questions but were not able to address them all in that series. So after a few months of thinking, studying and development, we have mulled things over enough to answer a few more.
We believe that the Bible has something to say on these issues. Whether you ultimately agree or agree to disagree, we think everyone needs to hear what we have to share.

A lot of people in our community and our world don’t bother with church because “church is for church people.” And if church is for church people, then they think Christianity is for church people. And if Christianity is for church people then it obviously isn’t for them, because they aren’t church type people. What would happen if people found out that Christianity and the Church is not just for “church people” but for EVERYONE? What if they found out church wasn’t a club for people with the answers, but a welcoming environment for people with questions? What would it take for anyone and everyone to feel like church and Christianity were actually for them?

REV•O•LU•TION | NOUN \ revəˈlo͞oSHən – An overthrow and replacement of an established system by the people governed.
Jesus spoke words of revolution. He came to introduce a new kingdom that would overcome the existing kingdoms in our world. The revolutionary tone He took is one of the main reasons that the establishment put Him to death. And as the early followers of Jesus began to live according to His teachings, many established systems began to crumble.
One established system that Jesus addressed in a revolutionary way was money. Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” According to Jesus there is an established system of authority when it comes to money; Money wants to be your master. And for some of us, it is. For some of us, we don’t have money, but money sure has us!
What does it look like when money is our master and how can the words of Jesus help set us free? Come and find out as we kick off a new series called RƎVO⅃UTION.

Make A U-Turn
Happy New Year! As we say goodbye to 2013 and look forward to what is in store for 2014, many of us also desire to say goodbye to old habits and start forming some new ones. Some of us make resolutions. Others of us aren’t resolution type people but we still want to do our best to make 2014 different from any of the years that came before it.
