Shepherds - Portrait of Joy

Why would God choose shepherds to be the first to learn that His Son had been born? Shepherding was a dirty, smelly job that no one wanted. There are many possible reasons that God chose to tell the shepherds that night but the most likely reason is that God wanted to demonstrate that the good news is for all people. We all have a reason for joy because God's love is for everyone.
